It is a sentence. Install SIGIL, open the app, and import that image from Photos, Files or the share sheet; the words come back on your own phone. If the sender wrote it inside one of their groups you will need that group's key, which comes once, as an invite. There is no other way to read it: no web reader, no paste-in page, no API. That is deliberate.
That is the app working, not failing. The mark was written in a group whose key you do not hold. Ask the person who sent it for the group's invite; you join once, and every mark in that group opens after that.
The image does not contain a readable mark. The usual causes, in order of how often they happen: a screenshot of a screenshot, an image a chat app has re-compressed several times, or a crop that cut into the outer ring. Ask for the original file, or ask for it to be sent as a document rather than as a photo.
Photographing a mark off someone else's screen does work, but hold the phone square-on to it. Past roughly twenty degrees of tilt, or with a lamp reflecting off the glass, SIGIL may tell you it could not read the image rather than guess; take the offer to try harder, which runs a slower pass that corrects for the angle. It never shows you a phrase it is not sure of.
Name it, then send its invite: one picture that carries the group's key. Send it to the people you want in the group, one at a time or in a chat that has only them; they open it in SIGIL and they are in. If a picture cannot travel, the same key comes as a QR code or as 24 words. Everyone holding that key can both read and write in the group. It is a shared room, not a one-way channel, so give the key out the way you would give out a spare key to a flat.
A mark holds 145 characters, and that is the same at every tier. The paid tier does not buy a longer phrase.
No, and that is deliberate. There is no web decoder, no reader page and no API. The only way to read a mark is in SIGIL.
The free tier writes 13 open marks a day, and the count refills at your local midnight. Reading an open mark never counts, and neither does anything you write or read in a group whose key you hold. Free starts one group of your own, and joining a group somebody else started is free at every tier. SIGIL Premium takes the daily limit and the group limit off.
Attribution, nothing more. It points at this site so whoever sees your mark can find the app; it does not carry your phrase and it cannot decode anything. Delete it before you send if you would rather it were not there.
Export your keys first: it is free, at every tier, always. Without a key there is no recovery, because we hold nothing, and neither does anyone else.
