Foolscap is built and operated by Hadger studio. The short version: Foolscap collects nothing, asks for no permissions, and nothing ever leaves your iPhone.

What Foolscap does not collect

What permissions Foolscap asks for

None. Foolscap requests no location, no camera, no Photos access, no microphone, and no notification permission. There is nothing to grant when you first open the app, and nothing to decline.

What stays on your iPhone

Your progress on today's ladder and a short list of recently used answer words (so puzzles stay fresh) are stored locally on your device, protected by full-device encryption. None of it is ever sent to any server, and it is removed if you delete the app.

How your puzzles are composed

Every daily ladder is composed entirely on your iPhone. A built-in generator selects the answers and an on-device check confirms each clue is fair — the wordplay leads to the answer, and no other word also solves it — before you ever see it. On devices with Apple Intelligence enabled, Foolscap may use Apple's on-device FoundationModels framework to phrase a clue more elegantly — that runs on the phone too. No prompt, no clue, and no data is ever sent to any cloud model or third-party AI service. On every other device, Foolscap uses its built-in composition, which is the full experience.

What network calls Foolscap makes

Foolscap uses Apple's StoreKit framework for subscription and purchase verification. When you start a free trial, subscribe, buy the lifetime unlock, or restore purchases, StoreKit contacts Apple's App Store endpoints. This is Apple-controlled and unavoidable for any paid App Store app. Foolscap itself initiates no other outbound network call. You can verify this with any network proxy (such as Charles or Proxyman) over a full session.

Children

Foolscap is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children.
