My hold came back as "not read". That is the app working, not failing. If the motion trace shows the phone was resting on a table or propped against something, Fermata declines to produce a reading rather than inventing one. Hold the phone in your hand or your lap and it will read.
Nothing happens under 45 seconds. A hold shorter than 45 seconds does not produce a reading. The shortest preset is one minute.
The widget shows an older reading? The widget updates when a hold closes, which is the only time the picture changes. Opening the app refreshes it immediately. Everything is drawn locally, so no connection is needed.
Can Fermata set my phone background for me? No app can. iOS has no API for it. Share a reading from its own screen and hand the card to the system share sheet — save it wherever you like from there, then set it in Settings as usual.
Do I need an Apple Intelligence iPhone? No. Every iPhone on iOS 26 draws the reading with the built-in renderer. Apple Intelligence, where present, only writes the one line of text underneath it.
